The Grand Hotel Akaroa can trace its roots back to 1860 when the original French Hotel was built by one of the first European settlers to inhabit Akaroa. Destroyed by fire in 1882 the present hotel was erected in 1883 and renamed the Grand Hotel in 1918

A number of the original features still remain despite considerable renovations in 1985.

Under the proprietorship of the present owners, the New Grand continues to provide refreshments and accommodation for travellers to Akaroa much the same as it did 140 years ago.

The Jacobs' Room and Function Centre.
Named after Jacob Weckerele, the first publican of the Grand Hotel. The Jacob's Room is ideal for functions, weddings etc. and can seat up to 90 persons. Opening out onto a landscaped garden courtyard which is suitable for Barbeques.
