To sum up Fiordland in three paragraphs is like explaining something intangible. With native bush everywhere, beautiful lakes, hidden lakes, waterfalls, deep fiords, wildlife and bush walks, Fiordland is truly majestic. Te Anau is located close to the main southern walking tracks. These great tracks offer a sense of freedom and escape seldom found in any other areas of the world. The road to Milford is one of the world's finest alpine drives. From Te Anau the road winds down the Eglington and Hollyford valleys, then through the Homer Tunnel to be met by Mitre Peak towering from the glassy waters of Milford Sound.

Fiordland 1

Fiordland is one of the very few places in the world where black and red corals live in depths of less than 20 metres. These and a multitude of other marine animals, can be seen in the relatively warm, clear waters of the fiord. Milford Sound has an underwater observatory with viewing facility to enable visitors to experience life below the surface. Boat trips on the Sound are a must providing close up views of awe inspiring scenery. These cruises are often accompanied by playful dolphins, and seals basking on the rocks are a common sight. The Milford Track allows access to towering snow capped peaks, tussock clad alpine plateaus, lush rain forests, gushing waterfalls and the dramatic beauty of this southern paradise. All tracks are accessible by the independent walker, or if you prefer, many tracks offer the option of fully guided tours including; the Milford, Hollyford, Routeburn and Greenstone. The Kepler Track is a circular track starting and finishing at Te Anau. Choose from scenic flights, launch cruises, sea kayaking, diving, caving, nature walks, hiking, cycling, horse trekking, golf, fishing, hunting...... and much, much more.
