Sunny Hawkes Bay is dominated by the twin cities Napier and Hastings. Both cities are renowned for their architecture, with Napier being one of the Art Deco capitals of the world. Hawkes Bay is also home to some of New Zealand's most prestigious vineyards. Napier itself fronts onto a sweeping stretch of Pacific Ocean shoreline. The adjacent Marine Parade, with its Norfolk Pines and ocean views, gives the city a real holiday resort feel. Wander along the parade and you'll come across several of the city's best attractions.

Heading north, check out the aquarium and marine park. The aquarium features a vast array of ocean life, while the marine park boasts live shows featuring the dolphins and other mammals. Also accessible from Marine Parade is the Hawke's Bay Art Gallery and Museum. Many of the museums exhibits set out to recapture the atmosphere and devastation of the 1931 earthquake. There are also art and craft displays on show. Other pleasant attractions include a nocturnal Kiwi House, and the picturesque Botanic Gardens. For glorious views of the coastline and city, head up to the lookouts on Bluff Hill.
